Qualifying Position

Executive-level or management-level in rooms division operations at a lodging hospitality company.

Position Examples

Assistant general manager, director/assistant director of rooms, front desk manager, guest service manager 

Time in Position

1 year Department Head experience:

  • Executive Certification takes 6 months off
  • Degree from an accredited academic institution takes 6 months off

How to Obtain Certification

  • Purchase your application, study guide, and exam package
  • Complete and submit your application and supporting documents
  • Upon approval, access to resource materials
  • Connect with a proctor to complete your exam

Upon purchase, you will be required to complete an online application to ensure you meet the prerequisites. Until your application is approved, you will be unable to access the exam preparation resource materials that are part of your purchase.

Exam will be accessible for 1 year from date of application approval.

Number of Examinations: 1
Number of Questions per Course: 200
Time Allowed per Course: 240 minutes
Passing Score: 70%
Retake Limit: 2 retake purchases allowed (within 1 year from date of application approval)

Finding a Proctor

COTHM will arrange a proctor and register for a proctored exam session before you can take the exam.

Awarding Body

Upon successful completion, the candidate will be awarded with:

  • Certification by American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute.
